BEREA, Ohio
(February 22, 2010) – Northeast Ohio’s traditional Labor Day festival of oompah
bands, brats and beer will be augmented this year with a fifth of Beethoven.
With a
performance of Beethoven’s celebrated Fifth Symphony, The Cleveland Pops
Orchestra under the direction of Carl Topilow will, for the first time, join the
celebration of music, dancing and traditional German food and beverages at the
Sixth Annual Cleveland Labor Day Oktoberfest.The Pops will perform on Sunday, September 5th, at 7:15 PM.

thinking Beer!Brats! and Beethoven! Then you need to look no further than Northeast
Ohio’s annual end-of-the-summer party, the Oktoberfest being held Friday,
September 3 through Monday, September 6, 2010, at the Cuyahoga County
Fairgrounds, in Berea.
The Cleveland
Labor Day Oktoberfest is a holiday family tradition, attracting a diversity of
fun-lovers from every walk of life, generation and ethnic background, offering
an exciting menu of activities and entertainment to delight young and old
alike.
The event is produced by
Cleveland Labor Day Oktoberfest Inc., a not-for-profit organization that works
with local and civic organizations that provide volunteers for events like the
Oktoberfest, with proceeds going to those organizations.
Along with the
Cleveland Pops, other highlights of this year’s Oktoberfest include:
·Chef John
Roberto, Official Oktoberfest Chef, will serve up a variety of favorites from
his international cuisine, including a clambake to bring in the fall season.
Also featured will be the culinary specialties of Cleveland's
own Der Braumeister, Seven Roses, Chef's Choice Meats Gourmet Market – which
was recently voted Cleveland's Best Sausage -
and the famous Schmidt's Restaurant & Sausage Haus, of Columbus.
·The Best Oktoberfest
Microbrew Competition, held in the BierGarden, will be expanded
from three to four days this year due to its enormous popularity last year.
Real beer lovers get to vote for the area’s best local brew.
·Contests will
include the Schuhplattler Dance Competition, the "Masskrugstemmen"
Contest (Bavarian Strong Man & Woman Competition) and the Hermes 5K Charity
Bier Run, with awards presented in various age categories.
·Traditional
German music, by local favorites such as Hank Haller, The Joe Wendel Orchestra
and the Fred Ziwich International Sound Machine, will be supplemented by a
whole lot a rock and roll featuring Stone Pony, the Spazmatics, Disco Inferno
and the Breakfast Club. Also performing on the midway throughout the weekend
are those wild and crazy guys, The Cleveland Bier Band.
·Dancers
representing more than 20 countries and a variety of ethnic backgrounds,
including German, Polish, Irish, Greek, Scottish and Russian, will share the
pride of their heritage in dance and musical performances at this year's
festival in the International Pavilion.
·Entertainment
by the Cavs Scream Team, a live glockenspiel, world champion sand sculptor Carl
Jara and the Sugardale Weiner Dog Races.
·The
Educational Pavilion will offer an array of family activity that will once
again feature the Frisch Marionette Company, along with gingerbread house
displays and gingerbread house building classes, a train show and cooking
demonstrations.
·Shoppers and
collectors will find an authentic array of merchandise at the German Cultural
Display and at the Art Market, featuring more than 40 local artists displays of
artwork available for purchase.
Car enthusiast will enjoy the Antique Car Show.
·The Children’s
Activity Area will feature an array of activity for the kids from chalk artists
to inflatable bouncers to the horse-drawn hayrides surely to bring a smile to
every child's face - and yours too.
Admission to
the Cleveland Labor Day Oktoberfest is $8 each day of the festival with
children 12 and under admitted free. A $15 full weekend pass will be available
on Friday evening only. Parking will be FREE throughout the event.
